elderlyAn afternoon in Temse with Godiva's Drag Bingo back in 2022. I admire how drag serves as a form of entertainment in Belgium. You book drag queens for the opening of your hair salon, or when your grandmother celebrates her 90th birthday — naturally, you invite a drag queen. This says a lot about Belgium, where seemingly contradictory elements coexist in strange ways. While drag holds always something political for me, it simultaneously offers pure entertainment. Belgium has maintained its progressive stance and acceptance of the LGBTQ+ movement, yet racism, classism, and far-right political parties are on the rise, creating this wired situation of political ideologies and lived experiences.I heard statements like "I'm not against queers because you are okay, my grandchild is okay, but in general, I agree with far-right politics, and don’t want all of this."
